Location: Vágar

Accommodation Name: Hotel Vagar

Our adventure begins today in Vagar (airport code - FAE). Our first hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the airport. If you arrive after dark, you may prefer to take a taxi as the route is not well-lit. For those arriving during daylight hours, exit the terminal building, turn left, and walk past the car rental office. Continue down the gravel track for about 5 minutes, then turn right up another gravel path, which will lead you to the hotel car park and reception.

There are no activities planned today so you're free to arrive at any time. If you arrive earlier in the day, you might want to walk to the village of Sorvagur, located two kilometres away. It is considered one of the oldest villages in the Faroe Islands, with a small sandy beach and numerous fishing boats. The fishing industry still plays a crucial role in the local economy.

Day 2: Ferry To Mykines Island And Walk To The Lighthouse In Search Of Puffins

Location: Mykines

Accommodation Name: Hotel Vagar

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

This morning, we'll meet our leader at 8:30am for a welcome meeting and to get excited about the plans for the week. We'll begin our day with a short drive to Sorvagur Harbour where we'll board a ferry for a scenic 45-minute ride across the Atlantic to the remote island of Mykines. Known for its rugged beauty, Mykines is often described as one of the most breathtaking islands in the Faroes, with dramatic cliffs and a vibrant puffin colony. Once we dock on Mykines, we'll embark on a moderate grade hike, ascending 200 metres as we head toward the islet of Mykinesholmur. This adventure includes crossing a spectacular footbridge that connects the main island to Mykinesholmur, where we will make our way to the iconic lighthouse perched at the cape's end. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to search for puffins, as this island is known for being a prime puffin-watching spot in the summer months.

After a few hours of exploration, we'll take the ferry back to Sorvagur on the island of Vagar. From there, we'll drive to one of the Faroe Islands' most iconic natural attractions - Mulafossur Waterfall. Torshavn, founded in the 10th century and one of Northern Europe's oldest capitals, is home to around 19,000 residents and perfectly balances its rich history with modern Faroese life. Peru Encompassed - spectacular trip

02-Jan-2023

I booked for my husband and I to go on the Peru Encompassed trip with the 3 day Amazon extension trip tagged on the end, we also booked to go to Lima few days early to get over the jetlag and see something of Lima before setting off on the group trip. Everything was booked for us by Explore! with seamless ease and without any hitches. This was the first time I had booked onto an organised trip so I was a bit concerned it might not be for us. How wrong I was. We were a group of 9, ranging from 30s to 60s, and a mixture of couples and singles and different nationalities. As a group we gelled really well and chose to spend most of our free time together which made the trip great fun. As for the trip itself, it surpassed all expectations. The Peru Encompassed trip was superb. I don't think any other country offers so much culture, wildlife, specular scenery and amazing food, all of which we experienced in abundance on the trip. We had a local tour guide for the whole trip who was fantastic and then expert guides joined us on different legs of the journey. We learned so much as a result. The highlights for me were visiting the local market in Arequipa with our guide and sampling lots of different fruit and street foods, the day on Lake Titicaca and of course Machu Picchu itself. We booked an additional trip to go back ourselves the second morning which was great as we could do a different route around the ruins and get different views from the afternoon before. Our final highlight was the additional 3 day trip to the Amazon staying at the Hacienda Conception. The lodges were immersed in the jungle which was wonderful if noisy! the food was fab and the daily trips provided were excellent. It was a great relaxing way to end the trip although it did rain quite a bit. Both my husband and I said our trip to Peru was one of the best trips we have ever done.
