Walking the Picos de Europa

This is a wonderful trip with some excellent and varied walks. The hotel where we stayed was run by Jim and Pilar and you really feel you are part of the family. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The food is wonderful. We are vegetarian, which usually means that you are a bit of an after thought. Not here, the kitchen tries to cater for every diet and we had some lovely dishes and great (and generous) packed lunches. The weather was a bit iffy when we were there, but the tour leader Alvaro has years of experience and knows the area backwards, so he would know what the best walks were for the cloudier or dodgier days. The walking was very varied and the scenery is spectacular. When we were there we saw lots of birds and the wild flowers were wonderful. Also we had an especially nice group which added greatly to the enjoyment of the week.

Walking here was beautiful. The food for breakfast and the 4 course dinners were delicious and memorable. The hotel staff were kind, friendly and always with a smile. They were always willing to help.

This trip was amazing - the hotel is great, food incredible (even for non meat eaters), generous hospitality, excellent location. The walks vary, all are magnificent. The area is so untouched by modern life and tourism, it is a real treat for the senses. The location of the hotel is lovely, pretty shops, bars and restaurants - all only about 3-4 minutes away.

Other than the timing of flights to/from Bilbao everything was excellent. We were very lucky with the weather but the walks, food (both in the hotel and on our free evening), the walking company were excellent.

We spent an amazing week in the Picos de Europa from 25th May to 1st June 2019 and both enjoyed it immensely. Even though our fitness levels were different, we were both able to benefit from the varied levels of the walks, some of which had optional climbs at a more challenging level. The scenery was stunning and was further enhanced by our leader Ignacio/Nacho's local knowledge and ability to judge the walk to suit the weather. This ensured we gained the most benefit from the scenery as some walks would have otherwise been spoiled by the mist due to their altitude. We enjoyed the many sightings of vultures, eagles, Asturian Mountain Cattle, goats, sheep, horses and chamois. The family run hotel Torrecerredo was very much understated as the food and service were exceptional with a very homely atmosphere. It is a credit to Jim and Pilar for such a well run hotel. We were presented every evening with a four course evening meal of Michelin Star quality. Picnic lunches were individually prepared to order and wrapped for us ready to take on our walk. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel also offers a laundry service which most of the group availed of. We were very fortunate to be part of a fantastic group of 16 people who got on extremely well together and encouraged and supported each other throughout the week. The hotel bar was great to relax in after a day's walking with a bottle of local cider, beer or gin and tonic.

My holiday in de Picos de Europe has been the best I've had in the last ten years! Everything was perfect!Work has been miles away, thoughts were vanished. It is also always a pleasure to be among englisch.Go to the Picos! It's lovely. Greetings, Monica Wesseling, Holland 

An amazing trip assisted by the complete gelling of the group...everyone put in 100% from day 1 to make it a great success

Everything about this trip went beyond my expectations. Our thoughtful and knowledgeable guide Nacho was a delight! The other members of my group (there were 15 of us) were lots of fun and we felt like family by the last day. The scenery was spectacular and the hikes were challenging but not over the top. I cannot say enough positive things about this trip except it was rather hot and humid while we were there and ceiling fans in the rooms would have been a welcome addition. The hotel overall was comfortable, convenient location and the meals were incredible! Don’t hesitate to book this trip if you want to see Spain off the beaten path.
